A BUILDING surveyor will lose his job after being caught drink driving while more than twice above the legal alcohol limit.

Timothy Round, 32, of Oak Tree Road, Harvington, was banned from driving for 18 months by Worcester magistrates yesterday (Friday, February 27) after admitting the offence.

The court was told he had driven home after drinking with a friend whose father had died.

Round was caught by police with 77 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, more than double the legal limit of 35mcg, on Sunday, February 8, in Evesham Road.

Mark Soper, prosecuting, said: “Mr Round’s VW Golf was seen in Evesham going somewhat over the speed limit with rather erratic driving. Police stopped him and the roadside alcohol test was positive.”

Amer Hussain, defending, said his client had been to see a friend whose father had passed away.

“They had consumed some alcohol and in the early hours he made the rather unfortunate decision to drive,” he said.

“He does dispute the officers’ comments about erratic driving and he had only driven a short distance. He was entirely co-operative.

“Mr Round will lose his employment. He is employed as a building surveyor and this involves travelling around rural parts of Worcestershire.”

District judge Nigel Cadbury said: “Clearly it is going to have a serious effect on your employment and your career.

“Drinking alcohol and driving is always a serious matter and you were more than twice the legal limit.”

Round was ordered to pay a £315 fine, £85 in costs and a victim surcharge of £31.
