OUTLINE planning permission has been granted for three new homes in on the border of Upton.

Malvern Hills District Council’s Southern Area Development Management Committee approved the application for the development on a 0.8 hectare paddock at May Cottage in Tunnel Hill at a meeting on Wednesday, March 18.

Members heard 13 trees were to be felled to allow the building work to go ahead, and conservationists had expressed concerns about the impact on protected bat species who use the area for foraging.

Speaking in support of the application Ben Greenaway said applicants had lived at May Cottage for 30 years and were but felt they were no longer able to manage the large paddock area.

“They will make sure it is done carefully,” he said.

“Every i will be dotted and every t crossed.”

Members voted to approve the outline application for the development, which will be accessed off the B4211. All other aspects of the application, including the design of the buildings and the layout of the development, will be subject to a reserved matters application.
