GARDEN lovers are being treated to a spectacular open gardens day in Malvern when Davenham and Perrins House throws open the gates to its four-acre estate.

The gardens contain many large trees and shrubs, along with perennials. There are over 50 species of trees including the Giant Sequoia, numerous acers, Giant Redwoods and the Ginkgo Biloba. A list of most of the trees and shrubs has been compiled, along with a plan of the gardens, and information about the house and family. This will be available on the day, for a small charge.

Davenham, Perrins House and Bradbury Court are residential homes for the elderly including those with dementia, run by the Charity “Friends of the Elderly”.

Davenham was formerly the home of James Dyson Perrins, a great local benefactor. In 1958, his wife, Frieda, bequeathed the house to the Friends of the Elderly, in memory of her husband. Perrins House was opened in 1978.

Admission will be £2 for adults. Refreshments will be available in both Davenham and Perrins House. There will be a variety of stalls including home-made produce, (cakes, jams and pickles), books, plants, a tombola and white elephant stall. The Worcester Ukulele Club will be playing in the gardens from about 3 pm.

The Open Day has been organised by the Malvern branch of the Support Group, which raises money to support the Homes and the Residents and takes place on Saturday May 16 from 2pm to 4.30pm.
