MEMBERS of an Evesham slimming club have lost the equivalent of a large van in weight over the past 12 months.

Since the Slimming World group, which meets at Evesham Town Hall in Abbey Road at 5pm and 7pm every Wednesday, was launched in April last year, members have lost a cumulative total of 3.75 metric tonnes.

The group’s leader Ali Saunders described the amount of weight lost as “amazing”.

“I have been completely overwhelmed by the support that everybody gives each other,” she said.

“The group is so friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is buzzing, which I am sure has contributed to the success of everyone’s brilliant weight losses.

“I know how hard it can be to take those first steps through the door, everyone needs the support of others – I have seen friendships blossom and grow week after week.”

Mrs Saunders said she had been spurred on by member's success to launch a new group to meet at the town’s Masonic Hall in Swan Lane at 7pm on Tuesdays.

"In just 12 months I’ve seen so many changes, people losing weight, feeling happier and healthier than ever, and their confidence increasing,” she said.

“I have seen people achieve their target to fulfil their dreams.”

“And the really great thing is that as they’ve lost weight the Slimming World way by eating filling, tasty meals. They’ve achieved all this without ever going hungry or feeling deprived."
