HURST Green Family Church is holding a free birthday party on Saturday, May 30.

From 11am to 2pm there will be a bouncy castle, barbecue, ice creams, refreshments, hook-a-duck, stocks and other activities.

Reverend Nigel Powell said: "We will also have a program of entertainment including a local dance school showing off their talents, a quiz and game show. "There will also be some stalls and an auction, this is not a money-making venture but a gesture of goodwill to the local community and we will hopefully put a smile on a few faces."

The Beaumont Road church also wants to spread its message that Pentecost is the church's birthday.

Rev Powell added: "A lot of people think that Christmas is the birth of the church but it is in fact a day called Pentecost.

"Pentecost was 50 days after Easter, when Jesus ascended back to heaven and sent the Holy Spirit in his place, on that day, over 3,000 people joined the church so it became the church’s birthday."
