THE Worcester-based English Symphony Orchestra will perform a series of major concerts in Worcestershire this summer and autumn as part of the Magna Carta 800th anniversary celebrations.

These events start on June 17 with a cello recital with Corinne Frost in Worcester Cathedral.

Then on June 18 Kenneth Woods, the orchestra's third principal conductor, and his wife, violinist Suzanne Casey, continue the celebrations with a string quartet and voice concert.

On June 19, Woods will lead the orchestra in a gala final concert at the Cathedral.

The orchestra will return to their historic home in Malvern Theatres for the first time in eight years on October 8.

They will be joined by violin virtuoso Alexander Sitkovetsky for a performance of the Elgar Violin Concerto in a programme which also includes Brahms’s Third Symphony and Elgar’s Froissart.

The orchestra will then bring a large-scale family 'Spooktacular' concert to the University of Worcester Arena on October 31.

Tickets for the Magna Carta Gala can be bought by calling 01905 611 427, and for the Elgar Pilgrimage in Malvern from malvern-theatres.co.uk.

Halloween Spooktacular tickets go on sale on July 1 from the University Arena.
