UP and coming stars of the creative world showed off their best work at a special show at the University of Worcester.

More than 100 emerging artists, designers, photographers, filmmakers, animators and illustrators displayed their work at the university's Degree Show at the city campus and the Garage on Hylton Road on Thursday evening.

Final year students displayed their best pieces at the event, which is the product of months of planning.

Rebecca Gamble, lecturer and module leader for creative digital media, said the students across all departments had worked "incredibly hard" to produce work for the final show.

"It's a chance for the students to exhibit their work and show people what they have been working on. These are their final pieces for their degree and there's a lot of brilliant work on show."

Claire McCarthy, a final year creative digital media student from Leominster, focussed her artwork on reclaiming the phrase 'like a girl'.

"I wanted to put a different spin on it, rather than the way it is often used in a demeaning way. So I based my designs around the phrases 'fight like a girl', 'lift like a girl' and 'hit like a girl'. I'm really pleased with how they turned out."

Emily Dove spent time painstakingly trying to create images which "visualised music".

"I love music, and I play a lot of instruments, such as saxophone, violin, clarinet and I sing. And I love art and photography, so I wanted to combine them," she said.

"So to create my light trails I used a stick with torches attached to the end, and it was tough but I think it turned out well. I've really enjoyed doing this work and the course as a whole."

Sam Collett, joint head of graphic design and multimedia at the University of Worcester, said: "Last night’s degree show was the best yet. Our students really shined and they were able to show off their work to a really professional standard. As ever, the atmosphere was a mix of nerves, excitement and joy."
