WORCESTERSHIRE’S newest MP has pledged to ensure women in the county women with ovarian cancer get the treatment and support they need.

Mid-Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston has signed up to a campaign run by charity Target Ovarian Cancer aiming to end the so-called postcode lottery resulting in women in different parts of the country getting varying levels of treatment.

The Conservative MP, who was elected to the seat previously held by Sir Peter Luff in May’s General Election said: “More needs to be done to ensure that all women with ovarian cancer get the support and care that they need, regardless of where they live.

“I have pledged to make sure that is happening in Worcestershire.”

The charity’s chief executive Annwen Jones said: “Whilst cancer doesn’t discriminate by address, this new report clearly shows that women with ovarian cancer are facing a life-altering postcode lottery.

“Women with ovarian cancer should be able to access the best standards available, no matter where they live in the UK.”

Symptoms of ovarian cancer include bloating, pain in the belly or pelvis, trouble eating or feeling full quickly as well as urinary problems such as suddenly feeling an urgent need to go to the toilet or needing to do so more than often.
