A CINEMA in Worcestershire is raising money for a national charity,.

The Regal Cinema in Evesham is supporting the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association by raffling a selection of top quality prizes including an Apple iPad, cinema tickets and passes, a case of wine and a table for four at the venue’s New Year’s Eve celebration party.

Owner of the cinema Ian Wiper has also completed a 100-mile sponsored cycle ride around London and Surrey to help boost the fundraising total.

He has a personal reason for supporting the association, which works to improve the lives of sufferers of Prader-Willi Syndrome – a complex genetic condition that causes challenging learning and emotional behaviours and unusual medical issues.

“In 2003 and 2004 I was climbing on Cho Oyo and Everest in the Himalayas where I met and became friends with a couple whose second son was diagnosed shortly after birth with Prader-Willi Syndrome”, said Mr Wiper.

“Since then I have been a keen supporter of the PWSA and I know from personal experience that donations made to the charity have a real impact on children with PWS, as well as their families.”

His cinema is now selling raffle tickets for £1 each with all proceeds donated to the charity and he is urging members of the public to take part.

Tickets can be purchased in person at The Regal’s box office or by calling 01386 421007.

Anyone wishing to purchase tickets must be a loyalty card holder, which takes a few minutes to set up and is free of charge.

The raffle will be drawn on Monday, August 31, and winners will be announced on The Regal’s Facebook page and website.
