A MAN has been interviewed by police regarding a brawl between football fans on a train in Droitwich.

A man — who came forward less than two hours after an appeal was put out on your Worcester News and social media — has been interviewed under caution about a brawl between football fans on a train in Worcester, which saw rival football fans use belts as weapons.

Passengers were left shocked after a group of men fought with one another while on the 6.45pm train from Birmingham New Street to Great Malvern on Saturday, 19 September.

On Tuesday (October 6), British Transport Police (BTP) issued a picture of a man they wanted to speak to about the disorder.

Soon after a 31-year-old local man called in and spoke to officers, who arranged for him to be voluntarily interviewed at the city's Castle Street police station on Thursday.

PC Ben Smith from BTP said: “I’d like to thank everyone who shared the appeal and who has come forward so far with information.

“We will not tolerate football-related disorder on our trains and our enquiries into identifying the group of men involved in this fight will continue. The man we have interviewed will be spoken to again in the near future.

“I would urge anyone else who may have seen what happened, or knows who may have taken part in the brawl, to contact us.”

The suspects – thought to be a mix of Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion supporters – are all described as white and in their mid-30s.

Anyone with information about the incident can call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text the force on 61016. Alternatively, information can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
