POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman called West Mercia Police in an upset state from Southcrest Wood in Redditch.

The incident happened between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Tuesday, March 29, when the woman, who uses a wheelchair, told police she had been left alone, following a taxi journey, in a wooded area off Ashperton Close.

That afternoon the woman, who is in her thirties, had been picked-up by a taxi, believed to be a silver people carrier, outside the Vue cinema on Friar Street in Worcester.

She was found safe but was checked over by medics as a precaution.

Investigating officer detective constable Cheryl Jones said: "We are working to establish the circumstances leading up to this incident and any information that the public may be able to provide could be pivotal to our investigation. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of Southcrest Wood or Ashperton Close on Tuesday afternoon."

Officers are keen to establish how she came to be in the woods and anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 531s of 29 March.
