A GRIEVING sister is taking on a gruelling mountain trek in memory of her brother, who was killed by a dangerous driver in a horrific high speed hit and run accident in Quinton.

Lucy Harrison, aged 28, hopes her Three Peaks Challenge - climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon in 24 hours - will raise awareness of the "terrible" consequences of speeding and bring in at least £1,500 for a charity that helps the families of accident victims.

Her brother, Peter Price, a 39-year-old insurance representative, of Quinton, died when a powerful sports car ploughed into him in Hagley Road West, near the junction with Stanley Road, at 60mph on November 29 2014.

Driver of the Mercedes E250 convertible car, Omar Tariq (correct), aged 31, of Denton Road, Stourbridge, who did not stop immediately after the accident, is currently serving a four and a half year jail sentence after admitting causing the death of Mr Price by dangerous driving and having no insurance.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that, just before hitting Mr Price, who was crossing the road as he walked home after going for a drink with a friend, the vehicle's speed had been estimated at 93mph in a 40mph limit.

On impact Tariq's speed in the powerful Mercedes sports car was just over 60mph.

Miss Harrison, of Priors Oak, Batchley, Redditch, said: "The loss of Peter was terrible - the worst thing ever.

"Omar Tariq got in that car and was speeding without thinking of the consequences and he took someone very important from us for ever.

"It was just before Christmas and we couldn't even have Peter's body for the funeral until the January after."

Miss Harrison has teamed up with her best friend, Natalie Gamble, aged 27, of Walkwood, Redditch, and step mother Mary Quinn, of Harborne, Birmingham, to take on the "Three Peaks Challenge" on August 6.

They will be raising money in memory of Mr Price, who lived with his partner of six years, Alison Weaver, for the RoadPeace charity.

"I would love to raise more awareness of the terrible consequences of speeding," said Miss Harrison.
