THE rooms of a country estate will be filled with the sounds of unusual historic instruments this Bank Holiday weekend.

Visitors are being encouraged to visit the Great Hall of the National Trust's Brockhampton Estate, Lower Brockhampton, this Sunday, August 28, and listen to the historic music, which will give them the opportunity to imagine what life was once like for lords of the manor when they were entertained.

Richard Commander and Frank O’Neil will be performing 18th century sonatas and Elizabethan dance music, played on the bass viol.

The music will be played between 2pm and 4pm, and visitors are encouraged to drop in and stay for as long as they like during this period.

As well as the music a short film showcasing the discoveries from last year’s summer of archaeology excavations around the manor house has now been made available for the public to view.

The filming for the project was carried out by young volunteers working with Hereford-based housing charity MediaShypp, and a full length version is being shown daily at the manor house which shares with visitors what was discovered about the early history of the estate.

The video can also be viewed on the estate's website, on youtube by searching for Summer of Archaeology at Brockhampton, or Facebook page NT Brockhampton Estate.

Brockhampton Estate is open seven-days-a-week until November, from 11am to 5pm. For more details visit nationaltrust.org.uk/brockhampton-estate.
