RARE posters promoting events at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery dating back 30 years have been uncovered as staff prepare to move exhibitions to the borough's archive centre.

The posters, which include exhibitions on Elvis Presley, UFOs and dinosaurs, will now be added to the records at the Tipton Road centre for people to view as a snapshot of the town's history.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “These posters are quite a find and show some of the fantastic exhibitions we provide at our museums.

"I am also pleased they will be formally handed to the archives staff for safe keeping and for future generations to see.

“The move to the archives building is an exciting challenge and when complete will allow us to continue celebrating the fascinating history and heritage that this borough has to offer.”

The museum will close its doors on December 22, when staff will start packing up the collections which span hundreds of years of history in the borough.

The collections will be moved to the new site from early next year, with the new museum expected to be open in the summer.

Council bosses say the new site will have improved parking for visitors and school trips as well as better access for people with disabilities.
