STOURBRIDGE News owner Newsquest is dishing out Christmas gifts totalling almost £40,000 to charities across the region.

Cheques are set to bring seasonal cheer to six charities which will benefit from the annual grant application scheme run by the company.

The biggest single grant is £12,000 from the Halesowen News to the Loaves ‘n’ Fishes charity which helps those in need by using recycled furniture, household items, toiletries and cleaning products to produce ‘Make a House a Home’ kits.

Another grant from Newsquest’s Stourbridge division will go to the Wyre Forest Talking Newspaper Association in Kidderminster which will receive £2,750 for memory sticks and boom boxes.

Nationally Newsquest is handing out more than £300,000 this year, taking its charitable giving over the last decade to more than £3m.

The Gannett Foundation UK, which makes the grants, retains a modest reserve for urgent applications ahead of the next round of awards in November 2017. Applications can be made to sandie.hutchings@newsquest.co.uk
