WEST Mercia Police is appealing for information after vandals threw a large piece of tree trunk from a Redditch overpass.

The incident took place on Sunday, January 15 at about 12.15pm when two young men were spotted dropping the trunk from the Birchfield Road (B4504) overpass to the A448 Bromsgrove Highway. 

The piece of tree trunk caused significant damage to a lorry carrying a horse box and superficial damage to a Seat Toledo Sport.

There were no injuries.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to convey the serious nature and potential to cause significant harm for these types of incidents.

"Throwing or dropping any item from an overpass onto a fast flowing road can cause significant damage to vehicles and to those inside them.

"Thankfully on this occasion no one was injured."

Two young men were seen to have left the area on foot heading into the Pitcher Oak Woods area.

Officers are urging anyone with information on the identification of the two young men to contact 101 quoting incident number 0268S of January 15.
