A NEW art exhibition has been opened in Pershore.

Number 8 Arts Centre in Pershore has opened an exhibition of young people's 2d artwork, showcasing the finalists of Wychavon District Council’s new art competition Visualize.

Visualize is a spin off from the council's W Factor for which young artists in Wychavon aged between 11 and 18 depicted the country through visual arts.

Jenny Davis, arts development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “I’m delighted that we had so many wonderful entries; it was especially good considering the competition is in its first year.

"We really do have a wealth of talent in Wychavon and I’m happy that we are able to showcase this at the prestigious Number 8 Arts Centre in Pershore.”

There were two winners in the competition, Lily Spiers from Blackminster Middle School won the 11 to 13 category with her depiction of an English village, whilst Eleanor Ritchie from Prince Henry’s High School won the 14 to 18 category with a collage about fairy tales.

The exhibition runs until Wednesday January 25 and artwork varies from collage and photography to watercolours and caricature.

It is hoped that the competition will return later this year. Artists can join the mailing list by emailing jenny.davis@wychavon.gov.uk.
