A NEW exhibition of young artists work is on display at a Pershore art gallery.

Visualize, the new exhibition, is currently on show at the Number 8 Arts Centre in High Street.

The exhibition showcases the finalists of Wychavon District Council's new art competition Visualize, a spin off of the authority's successful W Factor, for which young artists, aged 11 to 18-years-old, were asked to consider how they would depict the country through the visual arts.

There were two winners in the competition, Lily Spiers from Blackminster Middle School, who won the 11 to 13-years-old category with her depiction of an English village, and Eleanor Ritchie, from Prince Henry’s High School, who won the 14 to 18-years-old category with a collage about fairy tales.

There is a variety of artwork on display in the exhibition, from collage and photography to watercolours and caricature. The exhibition runs until Wednesday, January 25.

Jenny Davis, arts development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “I’m delighted that we had so many wonderful entries, it was especially good considering the competition is in its first year.

"We really do have a wealth of talent in Wychavon and I’m happy that we are able to showcase this at the prestigious Number 8 Arts Centre."

Organisers are hoping the competition can return later in the year.

Young artists interested in taking part can request to go on a mailing list, to be contacted when competition details are announced.
