CHILDREN centres across Worcestershire took part in a charity challenge inspired by the popular children's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Charity Action for Children joined forces with The World of Eric Carle to organise the nationwide event the Giant Wiggle, and county children made sure they didn't miss out.

A crowd of 70 under fives and their families took part in a sponsored event at Worcester Woods Country Park, Nunnery Wood.

The participants wiggled along in giant caterpillar conga lines, encouraging them to help others and feeding their imaginations through storytelling and creative activities.

Ileana Monaghan, from South Worcestershire parenting and family support, said: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a firm favourite at our children’s centres so it was great to host a Giant Wiggle.

"We wanted to celebrate Eric Carle’s beloved book by encouraging our children to get active and have fun.

"We’d like to give big thanks to Worcestershire County Council for letting us use their site and our local Sainsbury from St John's, for donating all the fresh fruit for our families.

"All funds raised will help Action for Children continue to support vulnerable children, young people and families in the heart of communities in Worcestershire and across the UK."

Action for Children provides early years child development, learning and childcare services to thousands of youngsters at children and family centres across the country.
