PEOPLE living in Worcester will soon have access to another defibrillator available at any time day or night thanks to generous donations from pub regulars.

The community defibrillator will be officially unveiled in the garden of the Chestnut Tree, in Lansdowne Road, on Sunday, where it will be available to anyone in the community 24 hours a day.

The new defibrillator was bought thanks to a fundraising campaign run by the pub's landlord Colin Robinson, aka Mad Pierre, and the pub's regulars and it will be officially launched as part of the pub's St George's Day celebrations.

Mr Robinson said: "We started raising money on my 60th birthday.

"I think it's a good community thing.

"I believe there's only one other in Worcester that's available 24 hours and that's down in the Diglis basin which is quite a long way away.

"This one will be 24 hours too so if someone does have a heart attack they can get hold of one."

Mr Robinson said the £1,500 was raised over six months thanks to raffles, collections, donations from customers and help from local organisations.

It was installed in the smoking shelter in the pub's garden on Friday morning and will be easy to spot in its bright yellow case.

A training session in how to use it is planned for today (Saturday) with the help of paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

On Sunday, visitors to the pub will celebrate all things English at a party for St George's Day with live music and morris dancers.

There will also be free Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding on offer at the celebrations which are due to start at around 3pm.
