A MALVERN man who sustained a severe head injury after being attacked has celebrated his recovery by undertaking a cycle ride to the Welsh coast.

Jono Gurney vowed to raise £500 for charity with the the ride, but he has been so well supported that he has topped the £1,500 mark.

The takings will be split between Malvern-based ARCOS, which provided invaluable help during Mr Gurney's lengthy recovery, and the Brain Tumour Charity.

Accompanied by friend Dan Matthews, Mr Gurney took two days to ride 140 miles from Malvern to Broad Haven in Pembrokeshire.

Kay Coombes of ARCOS said: "When I first saw Jono after he was brutally beaten up, there was no way he could have got on a bike, let alone ride 150 miles. It’s inspiring, a tremendous achievement."
