A HALESOWEN church will be transformed into a wonderland of fresh flora this weekend as its annual flower festival returns.

Hurst Green Methodist Church, in Narrow Lane, is once again preparing to hold the event – which raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support – from 1.30pm on Saturday (September 16).

The church will be showcasing about a dozen arrangements with 'theatre' being the festival’s theme this time around, but how that is interpreted is up to the arrangers.

Val Withers, one of the festival organisers, said: “We usually have a lovely day, and people really enjoy the companionship and getting together for a chat while looking at the beautiful arrangements.

“There will be about a dozen arrangements all around the church and about 25 to 30 people involved in creating them – a lot have come from the ladies group.

“People can also view the flowers on Sunday morning during the church service.

“Many of the same people come back year after year, but we do see a lot of new people, as every member of the community is very much welcome to visit.”

For the past two years, the festival has also raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support. “I was organising the festival but two weeks beforehand my husband died from cancer,” Val said.

“So ever since we have collected money for the great work that the charity does.”

She added: “We are all looking forwards to another lovely day and would love to see as many people as possible come along.”
