A WORDSLEY pub has been shut down due to a mouse infestation.

The Lawnswood, in Lawnswood Road, was closed down earlier this week, Dudley Council has confirmed.

Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “We closed the pub under emergency powers earlier this week and applied to the court to back that closure.

"The court granted that application yesterday (Thursday) and the pub must stay closed until we are satisfied that the infestation has been dealt with fully.

"We will be making return visits and working with the pub.”

A spokesman for the pub said: "Given the location of the pub it is always a challenge to manage pest control.

"We had been given best advice by an external company regarding pest proofing and pest control and had rigorously followed that advice.

"Our primary concern now is to work with the local authority ensuring compliance and the health and safety of our customers."
