MEMBERS of a Redditch church have raised cash for a charity that helps homeless people in the town.

People at Crabbs Cross Methodist Church’s Wednesday Drop-In group recently held a Summer fete and raised £173 for charity St Basil’s which runs a supported accommodation scheme called Beoley Court.

The aim is to help young single homeless people grow toward independence by supporting them with advice and guidance on accommodation, health and family, with an aim to develop their life and social skills.

A spokesman from the charity said: “We are very grateful for the support from the Drop-In group. It will make a big difference to us.”

The group has been running for nearly two years and is aimed at reaching out to those in the community struggling with issues related to anxiety and depression and provides a safe space for them to chat, enjoy crafts, cooking, music and gardening.

Sally Meredith, community and outreach worker for the church, said: “Everyone agreed that they wanted to support homeless people in our own community and the idea of raising money by holding a fete just snowballed.”

"The event was well attended and it is hoped that the group will follow up its success with a Christmas craft sale on November 18.

The Drop-In group meet every Wednesday from 1pm until 5pm in the hall at Crabbs Cross Methodist Church and would welcome new members.
