TWO men from Redditch have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and vehicle crime.

The men, both 31, were arrested on Friday morning (November 24) and remain in police custody.

West Mercia Police have urged residents to report suspicious behaviour and protect their vehicles overnight, following a rise in thefts in Redditch from cars overnight.

Inspector Mark Chapell from Redditch Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Over the past months we have seen a rise in thefts from motor vehicles and are working hard to identify and deter offenders.

“In fact two 31-year-old men from Redditch were arrested this morning (Friday, 24 November) on suspicion of burglary and vehicle crime offences and they currently remain in police custody.

“We are seeking the support of the public to remove from their vehicles overnight anything that may tempt a thief, including jackets and bags, even if these do not contain any items of financial value.

"Don't give opportunists a free ride.”

Police say offenders largely operate overnight and usually gain entry to vehicles by smashing a window or doors are forced open.

Power tools from within vans, dash-cams left on display, Sat-Navs, purses, wallets, contactless payment cards and even loose change are among the items stolen in incidents.

Residents who witness any suspicious behaviour are asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or 999 if a crime is taking place. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
