A NEW locally-brewed beer has gone on sale in Bromsgrove to celebrate a dance company's 10th year in the town.

Woodcote Manor Brewing Company teamed up with New Salsa dance class to design and create the golden ale at its Dodford brewery, using ginger and honey from local producers.

The drink, labelled New Salsa Ale, marks a decade of weekly Latin dance lessons in Stoke Prior, run by Strictly Come Dancing commentator John James, otherwise known as JJ.

JJ, who has won awards for his salsa dancing, said: "I went over to Woodcote Manor to take a tour and I was just bowled over - I was so impressed.

"Will Taylor, the brewer, showed me the ingredients and asked what flavours I'd want in the beer, then I got a call three weeks later to say come and have a taste.

"It's delicious and very moreish - a few of my dance members have tried it already and got quite excited about it."

Master brewer Will, who produces beer for pubs like The Little Ale House and The Ladybird Inn, has since taken up Latin dancing under JJ's guidance.

"I'm definitely better at making beer than I am at dancing," Will told the Advertiser. "I met JJ last year and we started chatting about beer and the fact he was coming up to the dance company's 10th anniversary.

"We said it would be fun to create a beer that falls in line with that spicy salsa style, so we worked on the recipe together."

New Salsa Ale is available to buy at Decanter Spirit in Bromsgrove's High Street, and at Avoncroft Museum.
