FOODIES had fun in the sun as they looked round more than 100 stalls at Droitwich Spa's Food and Drink Festival.

The festival kicked off at the town's Lido Park on Saturday morning with the official opening by Bake Off finalist Steven Bailey-Carter and Nigel Huddleston MP.

There were more than 100 food and drink stalls offering a wide variety of products, with 90 per cent of them produced within a 30 mile radius of Droitwich.

Entertainment in the bandstand featured local singers, bands and choirs including Jamie Knight, Richard Leach’s Jazz Band, Droitwich Community Choir and Acorn Antiques Ukelele Band. A children's play area included a bouncy castle, a vegetable theatre with Madame Zucchini from Britain’s Got Talent, face painting and a Peddle Your Own Smoothie bike.

The event was organised by a committee of volunteers with support from Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Town Council and local businesses.

Festival organiser Patrick Davis said the event had once again been a big success.

Mr Davis said: "We have had 106 stall this year.

"We won the Visit Worcestershire award last year for the best festival - the best testimony to it is the amount of people who attend.

"It really is a community event, there is something for the whole family. The people of Droitwich always support us.

"When I set the festival up in the first place, supporting local business was always my main theme."

Josie Taylor, on the Blue Cross charity fundraising stall, said: "We have had a good day.

"The weather has been good, we had a couple of showers, but nothing heavy.

"We have been before and we have always done really well."

Eleanor Clifford, from Chateau Impney Hill Climb, said: "We have had a really successful day, we have a good relationship with the food festival organisers who support us."

Droitwich Salt, which was set up to sell pure brine salt in Droitwich for the first time in nearly a century last year, also had a stall.

Neil Hanson, Droitwich Salt's general manager, added: "You just need the weather on you side to get the crowds - people have been coming up to us all day. "It is a great opportunity to show people what we are about."
