LORRY floats will again be parading through Bromsgrove town centre next weekend as Bromsgrove Carnival returns - this year with a World Cup-inspired theme.

The trucks returned to the annual event last year, after being axed from the procession in 2005 due to a lack of entrants.

And thousands lined the streets as community groups, schools and charities from across the district celebrated the comeback by decorating their lorries and dressing up for the 'Once Upon a Time' theme.

This year, to celebrate the World Cup, entrants have each chosen a country to base their costumes and decorations around.

Parade organiser Natalie Holland said: "We've had so many positive comments about the lorries after last year.

"Everyone loved it and it was a bit of nostalgia for people who remember watching the floats as a child.

"This year's event will be similar to last year so we're expecting another brilliant turn-out.

"We're hoping the weather holds out but even if it doesn't, it will still be a great day out."

The parade will start at North Bromsgrove High School in School Drive at 12.30pm on Saturday, July 14, and will proceed towards The Strand, past Asda and down Kidderminster Road before arriving at Sanders Park around 1.15pm.

Groups taking part in the procession include Catshill charity Libby Mae's Little Angels, Blackwell Orchestra Band, Bromsgrove Hotel and Spa, and Fairfield First School - who won 'Best Lorry Float' with their 101 Dalmatians-themed lorry last year.

The carnival will continue in Sanders Park with live performances from local dance and music groups, various stalls, a fun fair and the Timberhonger 10k.

Presenter Joanne Malin will be announcing the winners of 'Best Lorry Float' and 'Best Walking Group'.

On Friday evening, at 8pm, local singer Mitzy will be performing in Sanders Park, followed by an outdoor cinema screening of The Greatest Showman at 9.30pm.

Entry is free but visitors will be asked to make a charity donation, which will be split between Libby Mae's Little Angels, Primrose Hospice, Midlands Air Ambulance and Hereford and Worcester Scouts, who will be hosting a hot food stand on the night.
