DEMENTIA sufferers will be getting greater support at a Halesowen nursing home after more than £1,500 was raised at a recent fete.

Allenbrook Nursing Home’s Hawaiian-themed summer event was a massive success, with residents and the local community giving their support.

Some of the residents also got involved on the day by manning stalls and taking part in the raffle, which included a number of prizes donated by local businesses.

The fundraising total was given a £600 boost by the home’s maintenance man Bruce Hadley who raised the money after taking part in a 89 mile bike ride from Bristol Zoo to the Spies Lane centre.

Clare Booth, home manager, said: “Thank you to all those that donated their time and prizes to make the day a success.

“I want to say a big thank you to Melissa Hill, who is one of the housekeepers at Allenbrook, who went above and beyond her normal duties and organised the fete and managed to convince all the local businesses, family and friends to donate prizes.”

The money will be used by the home to invest in special pieces of equipment which will benefit residents at Allenbrook who have dementia.

Melissa added: “We are hoping to do more events and activities over the coming months so we can raise even more money towards the equipment.”
