A TEENAGER from Catshill has helped to raise more than £1,200 in memory of his dad, who tragically died last year due to a brain tumour.

Oliver Arch organised a fete at St John's Church on August 10 alongside 16 other young people and adults as part of their National Citizen Service course.

The 16-year-old chose to raise money for Primrose Hospice and the YMCA.

The hospice provided valuable support and counselling after his dad Mike sadly died last year aged 49.

Many years before, Mike also had to live at a YMCA housing provision.

Oliver, who has just finished Year 11 at Waseley High School, said: "The event went really well there was a lot of people who came.

“Both charities are a huge part of many of our lives.

“Without Primrose I wouldn’t be who I am today. They supported me after my dad died and allowed me to talk to someone who helped me clear my head.

“Without them I would have been a very different person and therefore am grateful everyday for the service they provide.

“Similarly with YMCA they help young people like ourselves who are in awful situations living on the street or class themselves as homeless."
