A YOUNG woman stole from a Worcester shop on several occasions while drunk, a court was told.

Kimberley Probert, aged 24, of Laurel Road, Brickfields, Worcester, pleaded guilty to stealing items to the value of £500 from General Store in Dee Way, Tolladine, between February 2 and February 25.

Sam Dixon, prosecuting, said police were alerted when the shop owner checked his CCTV after noticing stock was missing.

It revealed Probert and an accomplice entering the store on three occasions.

Each time the accomplice distracted staff while Probert took items.

Paul Stanley, defending, said Probert had been well known to the court for a period of time but had been out of trouble for a while.

He said part of that was because she was serving a 52-week prison sentence handed to her in July and was released late last year.

He said Probert had committed the thefts in drink and while in the company of others.

She was off heroin, which had been a problem for a number of years, and had the support of her parents.

Mr Stanley explained Probert had been in a violent relationship for several years and was “still suffering at the hands” of her partner when she committed the latest crimes, drinking more as a result.

He said that relationship had ended, adding she had met with probation officers and was looking for work.

Magistrates postponed sentencing to allow the Probation Service to carry out a report on Probert.

She was bailed to return to court on Monday.
