A POST office could be open for 'almost double' the amount of time if plans to move get the green light.

Plans have been submitted to move Broadway Post Office to Warner's Budgens, away from Wright Newsagents on the same street.

The proposals are subject to a consultation period, but postmaster Graeme Hayward-Wright believes that the change would benefit Broadway.

Mr Hayward-Wright said: "A move to Budgens would give a bigger pool of staff and longer opening hours, the time it is open could almost double.

"At the moment if a member of staff is off we have a problem, that would not be the case at Budgens.

"The process is subject to a consultation period of four more weeks.

"We are not sure when this change might happen but it will not be before May."

Wright Newsagents would continue to sell the products it does now, whilst the post office would retain the same features if it moved to Warner's Budgens.

Guy Warner, the owner of Warner's Budgens said: "There was a real chance of the Post Office being lost from the village so we were very pleased to be able to step in and give it a home at our store in Russell Square. We are looking forward to it relocating."

The post office is currently on the High Street, but would be moving to Russell Square on Back Lane if plans are successful.
