A COTSWOLD MP will lead a delegation of MPs to meet with the Prime Minister to tell her that local schools will face teacher cuts under new funding proposals.

As we've reported, plans for a new national funding formula were supposed to address an historical unfairness which sees some local authorities receive more money for schools than others.

However, after the proposals were revealed many Cotswold heads came forward to say their schools would be worse off under them.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown visited four secondary schools earlier this month to discuss the impact of the changes and also went to Bourton-on-the-Water Primary Academy last week.

During the visit, the school's headteacher John Jones and chair of governors Alan Gibbons told him the funding cuts would mean a 2.3 per cent reduction in the school's budget.

They said it would inevitably lead to teacher and teaching assistant numbers being cut.

Mr Clifton-Brown said: "I have had numerous meetings with the schools minister and secretary of state over the inherent unfairness of the draft consultation proposed for the new national funding formula.

"Ministers are simply not listening to those of us whose schools are being disadvantaged by these proposals; that is why I am leading a delegation of MPs to meet with the Prime Minister and I have made it clear that I will not vote for this new formula unless it is radically changed."

Mr Clifton-Brown also reiterated the importance for all parents, teachers and governors who are affected by the proposed new funding formula to contribute to the Department for Education’s consultation by next Wednesday.
