GOLFERS took part in an annual charity day.

56 golfers gathered at Naunton Downs Golf Club for North Cotswolds Rotary Club’s 22nd annual charity golf day with more than £83,000 raised over the years.

Rotary club president Colin Gatenby said: "I would particularly like to thank Ian Wilson, owner of Naunton Downs Golf Club, for allowing rotary to hold the event at his lovely course in the Cotswolds.

"Our thanks too to all the players for their support.

"For a charity event such as this we depend on local businesses for sponsorship and we are most grateful for their generous support, and in particular to our main sponsor, Harrison James and Hardie."

This year a total of over £4500 was raised, which will be split between four charities including Gloucestershire Young Carers and Mind.

Money raised will also go to the MS Society and the research being carried out by Professor Sawcer, and a small overseas charity, Building Malawi, which has successfully built two schools and four libraries in Lilongwe.

Mr Gatenby praised the work done by Rotarian Bryan Sumner and his team of helpers for their work in making the event a success.

The competition was played over 18 holes with a shot gun start at 1pm.

Players, in teams of four, took part in both an individual stableford competition, and a team stableford.

Many prizes were won on the day, with Stuart Mitchell the individual winner of the Honess Cup, Guy Padgham the runner-up and Keith Prout in third place.

The prize for best ladies score was Dawn Rimmer and Neil Rimmer won the Clifford and Webb Cup for the best Rotarian score.

Winners of the team prize were Peter Dunckley, Stuart Mitchell, Stuart Rushworth and Mark Salf, closely followed in second place by Colin Gatenby, Steve Melton, Will Mustoe and Neil Rimmer.

As no one managed a Hole in One, the prize of dinner, bed and breakfast for two donated by the Lords of the Manor Hotel in Upper Slaughter was auctioned, raising a further £325 for charity and a raffle raised another £250.

The day was rounded off with a two-course meal prepared by Teri Collett.
