TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after leaving a man in a critical condition.

A man in his 30s was found with serious injuries in Chipping Campden by the side of the road in Cidermill Lane at around 12.20am on Wednesday morning (August 16).

The victim was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he is currently under sedation and is in a critical condition.

Yesterday a 26-year-old man and a 44-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Both of the men, from the Cotswolds, have been bailed to return to a police station on September 5 pending further enquiries.

During the incident, police attended the scene and closed off Station Road following a report from a resident.

An air ambulance took the patient to Southmead Hospital, in Bristol, where he has been sedated and is in a serious but stable condition.

A 75-year-old resident, who lives in High Street, Chipping Campden, said: "This is not common in Chipping Campden.

"People are shocked. People want to find out what happened to him.

"A friend of mine's son was walking past there around that time and the paramedics were working on him then and he was losing a lot of blood."

South Western Ambulance Service sent two air ambulance crews and a pair of double-crewed ambulances to the scene, after receiving a call at 12.22am on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said they did not have any information about the patient's injuries.

One of the air ambulance crews travelled to the scene in a car, according to Wiltshire Air Ambulance service.
