POLICE went to assist a stranded motorist on the M5 this afternoon - and ended up seizing the vehicle for having no insurance.

The driver broke down near junction 5 in Droitwich and officers from the Central Motorway Police Group attended with the intention of lending a helping hand.

But they found the motorist had no driving licence and the vehicle was not insured.

Officers tweeted from @CMPG: "Officers assisted a driver who had broken down on the M5 - turns out he had no driving licence or insurance. Vehicle seized #noinsurance"
