HAVE you ever watched Top Gear and wanted to take part in a similar European roadtrip?

Well two work colleagues from Hereford are doing just that as they aim to travel through nine countries in four days while raising money for charity as part of the Two Ball Banger Rally.

The 1,200-mile challenge will be made harder by the fact that their car of choice is a Toyota Avensis brought via Facebook for £300.

Adi Baber will be joined by work colleague and co-pilot Andrew Weaver during the challenge.

The pair are raising money for the Midlands Air Ambulance and have painted their car in a Top Gun theme to coincide with their team name Bottom Gun.

"I have watched Top Gear and seen the silly antics they get up to and being a petrol head myself I wanted to do a similar challenge," said Adi.

"I spoke to a couple of guys at work and one of them said he would like to join me so we signed up last September. The first car we brought wouldn't have made the journey so we had to scrap it. So we brought another car from Facebook for £300 and spent some time decorating it to make it look like an aeroplane including foldable wings.

"We chose the Midlands Air Ambulance as a sponsorship thing as it's a good cause and when you see them flying you head you can't help but thinking that one day you might need it."

The Two Ball Banger Rally started on Thursday and will see the pair join 53 other teams from across the UK who will travel through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Monte Carlo and back to France for the finish on Tuesday.

Along the way they will pass through the Black Forest of Germany, the famous Stelvio Mountain Pass, Lake Como and Monaco.

Not only will the pair have to cope with the mileage but will be set random challenges by the organisers along the route with the best team winning the rally.

"We have only booked two hotels along the route so we can have a shower every other day but the other days we will be sleeping in the car, added Ade.

"We will be finishing in Monaco where we will be scrapping the car and flying back.

"We are hoping to raise as much as possible but we are doing the challenge for the fact that we wanted to do it."
