POLICE were called after a drunk woman was found lying in the street shouting outside a Hereford pub, magistrates heard.

Gemma Ovenden, 23, of Whitecross Road, Hereford, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly when she appeared by Hereford Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Amy Davies, prosecuting, said that shortly after 11pm on August 31, police were called to reports of a female lying in the road shouting and talking to herself outside The Barrels pub in St Owen Street.

Police officers spoke to the female, her eyes were glazed and she smelt of alcohol.

"There was numerous attempts to reason with her but she continued to talk over the officers and refused any help from police and ambulance staff," said Mrs Davies.

Ovenden was sent on her way. She was seen continually walking in the road and causing a danger.

Police followed her and shortly afterwards called for assistance after the defendant was seen lying down in front of a property's garage and in front of a car.

Police decided to take her to the address given and upon arrival she continued to shout and wouldn't calm down.

"Unfortunately there was no answer and police were concerned she would continue," added Mrs Davies.

Ovenden was arrested and taken to the police station where she continued to shout and was disorderly while being booked in.

Representing herself at court Ovenden said she had no excuse for her actions.

She said: "I was in a relationship with my long term boyfriend who cheated on me a few days before.

"I only made it to the pre-lash and didn't even make it into town. I lost my friends and fell out with a lot of people that night. It was a terrible night and I apologise. I went out in self-destruct mode."

Magistrates handed Ovenden a conditional discharge for six months.

She was also ordered to pay £135 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
