A GROUP of women are proving that friendship, laughter and just a little daring are the perfect mix when it comes to overcoming life's many obstacles.

Sarah Bowring did not expect to reach the age of 51 but, having been blessed with six years all-clear with secondary lymphoedema, she decided to grab life by the horns and begin ticking off her bucket-list.

For her most recent adventure – taking on the fastest zip line in the world – she enlisted the help of friends who she met at Halo Leisure's Aero-Fit class in a bid to raise money for another member of the group.

Amanda Orman is in need of a new, active wheelchair so that she can become more mobile and take part in races and events like others in the mobility group.

Sarah, a mother-of-two who is terrified of heights, said: "There is no funding available on the NHS so she is raising the funds herself.

"She needs to raise a total of £900. People will think that's expensive but she needs one she can use for competing in races and for long-term use. She was previously an active runner and did a number of charity fundraisers including the London Marathon for Cancer Research.

"It will mean the world to her. She's very determined and we are equally determined to get her the money she needs."

Along with Geraldine Bardot, Julijana Zappia and Julie Lawrenson, Sarah went to Zip World in Snowdonia to take on the notorious zip lines.

Sarah had breast cancer before being diagnosed with secondary lymphoedema six years ago, and damage was caused to her right arm during surgery. It was after this that she joined Aero-Fit.

She said: "I didn't expect to get to six years so I did a bucket list because I lost a friend on my journey so in a way I'm doing this for both of us.

"We went through radiotherapy together and I lost him halfway through that. I always say it's for me and Brian. I suffered with depression after my treatment because my arm was very bad and I couldn't use it and I had one day where I didn't really want to go out and felt very sad that I had survived which is really stupid, but equally I thought 'this is crazy'. I thought 'you need to kick yourself up the backside', he would love to be doing his list'. It's not right for me to feel sorry for myself. At least I had survived and had that opportunity.

"The zipwire was fabulous – we are still feeling elated about it now."
