A MOTORCYCLIST was killed when he was knocked from his machine and hit the windscreen of a car that pulled across his path on the A49, a court heard.

Wayne Pattinson, 59, who was thrown into the path of a second car, died at the scene of the accident in Woofferton in May last year.

At Telford magistrates court this week 79-year-old car driver Brenda Southan admitted causing Mr Pattinson's death by careless driving.

The pensioner was given a community order and was banned from driving for three years.

District Judge Kevin Grego also imposed an overnight curfew for 16 weeks and a fine of £500 and ordered Southan, of Pool Hayes Lane, Willenhall, to pay £185 costs.

The court heard the accident happened around mid-day at the junction of the A49 and Station Road in Woofferton on May 27 last year.

Footage of the collision from a CCTV camera at the nearby Salway Arms pub was shown to the court.

Abigail Hall, prosecuting, said that the defendant's silver Honda car was being driven south towards Leominster and was positioned in the centre filter lane to turn onto the B4362, Station Road.

She said the CCTV appeared to show the Honda does not come to a complete stop as the Velocette motorcycle, ridden by Mr Pattinson, travelled north towards Ludlow.

“The motorcycle was being driven on the correct side of the road and the Honda was being driven in the opposite direction. As the Honda turned right towards Station Road it was across the path of the motorcycle," said Miss Hall.

She said the motorcycle collided with the front of the Honda and Mr Pattinson was knocked from his machine and hit the windscreen and was then in collision with a Ford Fiesta which was at the Station Road junction.

The court heard that Mr Pattinson, from Tenbury Wells, suffered multiple injuries to his head, chest and pelvis and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Simon Goodman, for Southan, said his client was 'devastated' and extremely remorseful and had now stopped driving.
