THE Wye Valley Visitor Centre has submitted plans to build an indoor adventure golf course near Ross-on-Wye.

Applicant Lindsay Heyes hopes to build the Arthurian-themed course on the site of the former garden centre in Whitchurch which was vacated three years ago.

The development, just off the B4164, will not change the exterior vernacular of the former horticultural greenhouses but the existing glass curtain walls of the building will be replaced with translucent polycarbonate sheet for safety, seclusion and security.

The course will be strongly themed with props and landscaped with artificial rocks and plants to have the appearance of forest.

The applicant will reference local mythology and the ancient woodland and topography of the Upper Wye Gorge through the theme of the Arthurian romances.

A proposed base for multiple outdoor activities was considered for the site but cost-effective rent could not be achieved and there was local opposition.

The proprietors also declined enquiries for brewing, self-storage, distribution and pop-up retail as unlikely to contribute to the synergy of the nearby visitor centre.
