EVERY home in Ludlow and south Shropshire should soon have had an opportunity to have a special meter that records and sends information about how much energy has been used.
A Bill to ensure every home in the UK has a ‘smart-meter’ installed by 2020 will help consumers manage their energy bills and save money according to Ludlow MP Philip Dunne.
Smart meters are the next generation of gas and electricity meters which bring an end to estimated bills and are claimed to help people to save energy and money by making them more aware of energy consumption.
Government is facilitating and overseeing the smart metering implementation programme by developing a regulatory framework establishing the key rights and obligations for all aspects of smart metering including design. operation, monitoring and installation.
“The continued rollout of smart meters is good news for people in South Shropshire, helping them gain greater accuracy in their energy bills and saving consumers money,” said Mr Dunne.
