OLDBURY Rep are getting set to put on Brandon Thomas’ evergreen comedy ‘Charley’s Aunt’ as its final production of the season.

The play, which was first performed at the Theatre Royal in February 1892, will run from Saturday, July 8, until Saturday, July 15, with performances starting at 7.30pm.

The comical farce tells the story of Jack and Charley, who see the visit of Charley's wealthy aunt from Brazil as an excuse to woo their sweethearts.

But when the millionaire aunt cancels her visit at the last minute, the pair try to solve the problem by drafting their feckless Oxford undergrad pal, Fancourt Babberley, into a black satin skirt, bloomers and wig – where classic comic confusion ensues.

Tickets for the Oldbury Rep production, priced at £10 for adults, £9 concessions, and £8 on Monday and Tuesday evenings, are available in person at the box office, by calling 0121 552 2761, or online at www.oldburyrep.org

Charley’s Aunt broke all historic records for plays of any kind with its original London run of 1,466 performances.
