ICONIC Cradley Heath manufacturers A Perry & Co received the royal seal of approval when the firm officially opened its new 100,000 sq ft warehouse facility yesterday.

The Doulton Road family-run business, which was first established by Arthur Perry in Old Hill 92 years ago, could potentially create a further 20 jobs with their £4million upgrade investment – in addition to 15 which have already been fulfilled recently.

Perry was paid a visit by HRH The Duke of Kent on Thursday (September 21), who praised the company for their long history of providing ironware for use across the world.

While unveiling a plaque to mark the opening of the newly renovated building, Prince Edward said: “This is clearly a very forward thinking business. Congratulations and I wish you all every success for the future.”

The company, which has a current turnover in excess of £12million, supplies hinges, hardware, ironmongery, chain and threaded bar to some of the most prestigious customers in the world, including Buckingham Palace, Wembley Stadium and HS2.

Perry also supplies the studios that created Star Wars, Harry Potter and Doctor Who, while the firm recently signed a licensing agreement with Aardmann Animations to design and create a Shaun the Sheep sculpture.

Guy Perry, group managing director and grandson of founder Arthur Perry, claimed the opening of the new warehouse marked the “greatest day” in A Perry’s history.

He said: “We are honoured the Duke of Kent is opening our new distribution, warehouse and manufacturing facilities, marking 92 years of continued growth and expansion for our company.

“When my grandfather established A Perry & Co in 1925 he had a clear vision for the company, and even though we have expanded to now producing over 30,000 products that vision remains true today.

“Many of our hard working colleagues have been working with us for 20, 30, some even 50 years, and without whom the company would not be the success it is today.

“A Perry & Co continues to be – and will remain – a family-owned and run independent operation.

“We look forward to an even bigger and brighter operation over the next 92 years.”

In 2015, the manufacturer entered the ‘Top 50’ growing companies in Sandwell and continues to remain there, expanding by more than 20 per cent in the last 12 months.

Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Ahmadul Haque, who also attended the official opening, said: “I am very impressed with this company. We need more businesses like this in Sandwell.

“They are a wonderful family-run business who have provided many jobs to people from not just across the borough but the whole country.

“The Perry family have done a great job in expanding the business while keeping it local and I am very proud of what they have been able to achieve.”
