A MACHETE-wielding man who was arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder police officers in Kates Hill has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Armed police descended on Price Street on Tuesday afternoon (October 17) after the 42-year-old lashed out at the four officers, who had arrived at the address at 12.50pm to execute an arrest warrant.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Officers thankfully only sustained minor injuries fending off the man."

At the same time, in a completely unrelated incident, two men drove out of the road in a vehicle believed to be stolen.

A short pursuit followed and the vehicle was brought to a halt at Burnt Tree Island by standing traffic.

The driver and passenger - two men aged 23 and 24 - were both arrested on suspicion of theft of the vehicle and driving offences.
