STAFF at a Kingswinford supermarket have given a major funding boost to people with mental health needs across the region.

The Morrisons store in Stallings Lane have handed over a donation of £15,000 from the Morrisons Foundation to Community Action Wyre Forest to fund creative arts workshops.

The charity, which works with people across Worcestershire and the Black Country who have additional barriers to living happy lives, hope the money will help participants meet others in similar positions, as well as develop their self-esteem and build a more positive approach to life.

This could be people who are long term unemployed, have poor mental health, long term life changing illness, or experiencing extreme social isolation.

A spokesman from Community Action Wyre Forest said: “Last year we worked with over 200 individuals who were experiencing these barriers.

“The Morrisons’ grant will allow us to work with individuals who are experiencing poor mental health to experience the benefits of art therapy to improve their well-being and find coping strategies to deal with their illness or isolation.”

The Morrisons Foundation was set up as an independent charity by the supermarket giant in February 2015 and has since donated more than £15 million to registered charities across the country.
