A GORNAL doctor carried out sex attacks on five female patients over a 10 day period, a jury has been told.

The women, who were all left shocked and embarrassed, had gone to see Amirul Haque for a variety of complaints including earache, an eye infection and swollen ankles.

But the 33-year-old doctor rubbed himself against them during treatment and exposed their breasts, alleged Phillip Bradley QC, prosecuting.

He told the five man-seven woman jury that if they felt there was no medical justification for the doctor's actions they had to come to the "inescapable" conclusion it was for his own sexual gratification.

Mr Bradley said the doctor had only worked at the surgery for a short time and as part of his training he had been shadowed by other members of staff.

But he then started to work independently and he had been trusted to treat patients, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

Then, early in 2016, the five women all made complaints to the practice that they had been sexually assaulted by Haque.

One woman told the court that Haque had exposed her breasts before thrusting his groin against her body, leaving her shocked.

"As soon as I came out I questioned myself," she said. "I asked myself 'what just happened?'

"It was incredible. I thought I have just seen a doctor I trusted and he has done something wrong."

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said it was wrong for him to behave in that way adding: "It had nothing to do with why I went to the surgery."

When cross-examined by Gerry Boyle, defending, the woman agreed she had gone back to the surgery a week after claiming she had been assaulted for a further consultation by the doctor.

"I know it sounds ridiculous," she told the jury as she agreed there were a number of omissions in her evidence and the statement of complaint she made regarding the doctor.

"He did expose my breasts and he did repeatedly press himself against me," she insisted, adding: "I do not agree that it was no more than a fleeting impact."

The court was told that after his arrest, Haque, of Ladypool Road, Balsall Heath, chose not to answer any of the questions posed by police officers.

But he released a prepared statement in which he accepted he had examined the five women, he strongly denied any inappropriate behaviour.

The trial - expected to last for two weeks - is continuing.
