AFTER being inspired by the recent series of Great Celebrity Bake Off, a group of young Halesowen neighbours held their own charity cake sale.

The girls, who are all aged nine to 11, got together last weekend to bake cakes and raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

In preparation for the event, Olivia Parkes, Sophie Redden, Isla Poole, Lucy and Charlotte Simkins, Ruby Williams and Megan Charley, made posters and leaflets which they distributed together to neighbours in Hilston Avenue, as well as friends and their schools.

And their hard work paid off, as the crowds turned out in force, showing huge support for the girls.

As well as buying the cakes, visitors also took part in a raffle, which altogether raised £565 for the charity – smashing their initial £100 target.

Julie Redden, whose daughter was one of the event organisers, said: “The girls stood proudly with the Stand Up To Cancer logo and painted on the side of their faces. People were so generous with their donations for this wonderful cause.

“It’s so wonderful to see a group of girls doing something so positive – off their own back.”
