DEDICATED volunteers at a Worcester hospice are being applauded for their hard work as part of a national week celebrating those who give up their time for a good cause.

As part of next week’s National Volunteers Week the army of generous people who lend their skills and expertise to help patients, families and staff at St Richard’s Hospice are being invited to a series of events thanking them for their dedication.

Currently more than 1,000 volunteers lend their time, skills and expertise to help patients, families and staff at the charity.

As part of the celebration volunteers are being invited to a special picnic in Priory Park, Malvern, on Saturday, June 6, arranged by the Malvern Hills Volunteering Forum. The event, open to a range of volunteers throughout the Malvern area, will include food, music and activities.

The following day, Sunday, June 7, the hospice will host a special cream tea event in its gardens in Wildwood Drive on Sunday, June 7, which will include performances from the St Richard’s Singers and the British Champion Irish Dancers.

Guests will also be treated to a three-course lunch at the hospice on Monday, June 8 in thanks for their efforts.

The hospice’s team of volunteers carry out a range of tasks including fundraising, manning the charity’s shops and supporting patients with administration tasks.

St Richard’s volunteer coordinator Anna Wharrier said the hospice would not be able to run without the help and support of its generous volunteers.

“We are eternally grateful to each one for their dedication and generosity,” she said.

“There are always opportunities for people to join our team of volunteers, whatever skills and interests they may bring, and we would be delighted to hear from anyone who may be interested.”

St Richard’s Hospice provides free palliative care and support for more than 2,600 patients living with life-threatening illnesses and their families every year.

Anyone interested in volunteering with St Richard’s Hospice is invited to a volunteers fair at Pershore Town Hall from 10.30am until 1pm on Wednesday, June 3.
