WYRE Forest’s Labour will announce who will challenge Mark Garnier for the parliamentary seat next week.

The party’s selection process is still ongoing and a formal announcement set to take place on May 2.

Stephen Brown, of Wyre Forest Labour, said they were currently concentrating on the imminent county council elections, the ballot for which takes place on May 4.

The focus of their campaign has been around re-investing in public services.

Among their pledges are to ensure a fully funded youth service, retain children’s centres, invest in safe routes to school and ensure mandatory 20mph limits and prioritise public health improvements.

Mr Brown said they also want to ensure adult social care will be delivered on the basis of need while more support for carers.

Other promises include re-introducing free concessionary travel before 9.30am while also promoting a sustainable economy.

Mr Brown said: “For too long the Tory County Council has been part of the problem not the solution.

“They have slashed services to the most vulnerable in their willing and ideological pursuit of austerity.

“Labour will seek to end this attack on our communities and re-invest in those services our community needs.

“Ours is a wellbeing agenda so that no matter what your age or background, Labour will work with you and not against you, we will make sure that we rebuild what the Tories have cynically broken".

*Other parties that have yet to confirm their Wyre Forest General Election candidates for June 8 are the Green Party and UKIP.
